Does Distance Shamanic Healing Work?

Yes — distance shamanic healing works, and the reason is built into how shamanic healing works at all: the healing happens in a state of consciousness, not in a room. The practitioner journeys on your behalf whether you lie on a mat two meters away or on your own bed two continents away. That is the traditional understanding, it matches what I see in my own remote sessions, and it is why most established practitioners now offer both formats. What distance does change is the container around the healing — and that is worth understanding before you book.

How does a distance healing session actually work?

A serious remote session is not “a video call with drumming”. In my practice it has three parts: an initial conversation over Zoom or phone where you tell me what brings you; the healing session itself, which I carry out in the journey state while you rest at home — you receive a recording of it; and a follow-up call afterwards for everything that surfaced. The structure mirrors an in-person session deliberately, because the conversation and the integration are where the work connects to your everyday life. If you have never experienced any session before, my walkthrough of your first shamanic healing session explains each phase.

What tradition says about healing across distance

Working across distance is not a Zoom-era invention. In the Siberian and Mongolian lineages I trained in, shamans have always worked for people who were not physically present — the hunter away for weeks, the sick relative in another camp. The spirits, as my teachers put it, do not use roads. In the journey state (the practice at the heart of shamanic journeying), “where” is defined by intention, not by geography. From the practitioner’s side — and this still surprises me after years of remote work — a session for someone across the ocean feels no thinner than one for someone in the same room.

Honesty requires saying clearly: there is no clinical proof that shamanic healing works at a distance — or in person. What exists is thousands of years of practice, and what clients consistently report: the same warmth, emotion, imagery and deep rest during remote sessions as in physical ones, often with the added depth of being in their own safe space. Shamanic work complements medical and psychological care; it never replaces it, at any distance.

When online is the better choice

  • No experienced practitioner lives near you — the right healer at a distance beats the wrong one nearby, every time (here is how to tell the difference)
  • Your nervous system relaxes best in your own space — true for many empaths and trauma-sensitive people
  • Health, mobility or caring duties make travel hard
  • You want the session recorded — a quiet advantage of remote work: you can return to it weeks later

When in person is worth the travel

  • You are drawn to full ceremony — the drum in the room, the ritual you can smell and feel
  • The method involves physical elements or touch-based extraction work
  • Group field experiences: initiations, retreats and trainings live from shared physical space
  • Leaving your everyday environment is itself part of what you need

Frequently asked questions

Is distance healing weaker than in-person healing?

Not in my experience, and not in what clients report. The work happens in the journey state either way — what shrinks with distance is the ritual theater around it, not the healing itself.

Do I need to do anything during a remote session?

Only rest. Set aside a quiet hour, put on headphones, lie down and let yourself drift — many people fall half asleep, and that changes nothing about the work.

Can soul retrieval be done at a distance?

Yes — soul retrieval is journey work and translates fully to remote sessions. Mine run online only, as a three-part arc over about a week; the details are in my soul retrieval guide.

Does a distance session cost less?

Usually slightly, reflecting saved travel and space costs — not a lesser service. Typical ranges for both formats are in my breakdown of shamanic healing costs.

I offer both: distance healing sessions worldwide and in-person work in Portugal. Formats and booking are on my shamanic healing sessions page.

Shamanic healing complements medical and psychological care — it never replaces diagnosis or treatment by qualified professionals.
